Exclusive: IMIS kidnap Sunni Imams in Kirkuk
Iranian militias in Iraqi and Syria (IMIS) kidnapped several mosques' imams in Kirkuk, a source told The Baghdad Post on Thursday.

The Imam of al-Sahaba Mosque is among the kidnapped civilians, the sources added.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that Iraqi totally ignores IMIS violations in Kirkuk.

Tensions between Erbil and Baghdad have escalated since the Iraqi Kurds overwhelmingly voted for independence in a referendum last month.

The Baghdad central government has taken a series of steps to isolate the autonomous Kurdish region since its overwhelming vote for independence in the referendum, including banning international flights from going there.

The oil-rich Kirkuk Governorate has emerged as a flashpoint in the crisis as it is claimed by both sides
