Iraqi forces backed by Iran-allied IMIS militias are preparing for a looming attack on Peshmerga positions in northern Mosul and southern Kirkuk, Kurdistan Region Security Council announced Wednesday.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has held Iraqi PM Haider Abadi responsible for any attack agaisnt Kurdish forces in disputed areas, a KRG official statement revealed.
The looming attack comes after the KRG held on Sept. 25th an independence referendum thatwon an overwhelming YES vote. Thus, a strong rift erupted between Baghdad and Erbil.
Regional powers including Iran and Turkey strongly opposed the referendum.
