Three Iraqi soldiers have been injured as a result of gunshots fired from a military checkpoint in western Baghdad, a security source revealed Tuesday.
This comes as security forces are preparing to recapture Rawah city in western Anbar.
On Thursday, Iraqi forces recaptured Hawija city in Kirkuk Governorate, ISIS’ last stronghold in northern Iraq, leaving the terrorists group holed up in pockets of land by the Syrian border.
In western Anbar, Annah city has been recently retaken while Qa’im city is still under ISIS’ control.
On July 10, security forces recaptured Mosul, ISIS’ major stronghold in Iraq, after a 9-month military operation.
The forces retook Tal Afar city in Nineveh late in August.
