Erbil is open to dialogue with Baghdad, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani said on Sunday in a new message to the federal government.
In a press statement he has made during the funeral of late president Jalal Talabani, Barzani commended the efforts of the French President Emmanuel Macron to conduct negotiations between the two parties.
Kurds want to peacefully solve problems with Baghdad through discussions. This is their message to Baghdad, neighboring countries and the whole world, he noted.
On Thursday, France’s president offered to mediate between the Iraqi government and Kurds after crisis reached high level over independence referendum.
Macron said France and others are worried about the standoff between Kurdistan Region and Baghdad after last month's disputed independence referendum, in which Kurds overwhelmingly backed secession from Iraq.
