Famous philosopher Noam Chomsky has voiced support for the Kurdistan Region independence referendum and the Kurds' rights to self-determination.
In press statements, the 20th century's most important thinker said the referendum was "legitimate", describing it as another stage of the Kurdish people's "struggle for independence".
The Kurdistan’s historic independence referendum on Sep. 25 resulted in an overwhelming YES. About 5.2 million voters participated in the vote.
Regarding the threats from neighboring States, Chomsky called for the necessity "to tread carefully to reduce the threat of serious harm, which does exist".
Regional powers including Iran and Turkey oppose the Kurdistan referendum. Baghdad central government also oppose the move.
