Kurdish parties call for delaying independence referendum

Kurdish parties

Change Movement and Kurdistan Islamic Group on Monday called for delaying the independence referendum scheduled to be held on September 25th.

In a joint statement issued after a meeting between leaders of both parties, they said that they call for postponing the referendum, for it to be held at more proper time.

They also called for Kurdistan region parliament to endorse the referendum before holding it.

The two parties yet asserted the necessity of holding elections as scheduled.

Kurdistan is planning to hold independence referendum on September 25th. Regional and global powers are opposed to this plebiscite, saying it may destabilize the region.
