17,000 displaced persons return to their homes in Nineveh

Up to17, 000 displaced persons return to their homes in Nineveh
Up to 17,000 displaced persons have returned to their homes in Nineveh Plains after security forces retook it from ISIS grip, Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced declared in a statement Saturday.

The statement added that the displace people returned to their homes in Al-Hamdaniya district and Bartella, Bashiqa, and Nimrud towns.

The statement asserted that the number of returnees is still far less than the number of people who had fled Nineveh Plains, adding that it is a good sign as this incident will encourage the other ministries to provide aid needed to help in returning all the displaced people to their home towns.

On June 29th, Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi declared the utter fall and collapse of ISIS in Mosul. The battle to retake Mosul began last October, with coordinated attacks by Kurdish Peshmerga from the east and Iraqi army units pushing up from the south.
