The new US military base that has been recently established near Tal Afar city aims at coordination with Iraqi forces in terms of intelligence, MP Mohamed Nouri al-Abed Rabbo revealed on Sunday.
In a press statement, al-Abed Rabbo said that the US base was established to provide Iraqi aircraft and forces with location coordinates.
He also noted that there are no US troops or tanks on the ground.
The US is providing military support to the Iraqi joint forces through aircraft and intelligence exchange, he further stated, adding that this poses no threats.
On Wednesday, it was reported that a US military base has been established near Iraq’s northwestern Tal Afar city.
Iraqi forces have been preparing to launch an offensive to capture Tal Afar from ISIS after defeating the terrorist group in Mosul last month.
Tal Afar has remained an ISIS stronghold since the terrorist group overran vast territories in northern and western Iraq in mid-2014.
