Yemen is to buy 1.5 million barrels of fuel from SAU to face oil crsis

Yemeni prime minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr held an emergency meeting on Thursday night with Finance and Oil ministers, ordering them to buy 15,000 tons of fuel to confront the lack of oil products in Aden city, Ghamdan al-Sharif, press secretary of Yemeni prime minister said Friday.

The prime minister also ordered to deliver this fuel to gas stations by next Saturday, he added.

During the last 20 days, Aden faced severe oil crisis as gas stations closed their door before the citizens, who were very whiny and had to buy the gasoline from the black market at high prices.

Yemeni government made a deal with Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to provide Yemen with 1.5 million barrels of fuel monthly and for a year. This agreement is expected to be signed this month, he continued.

Yemen has fallen into civil war in 2014 after Houthi terrorists overran capital Sanaa and other governorates.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at reversing Houthi gains and shoring up Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.
