Abadi reiterates Iran-backed IMIS 'will never be dissolved'

IMIS militias
Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi has defended Iran-backed IMIS militias, stressing they will never be dissolved, The Baghdad Post reported Saturday.

Speaking at the Victory Fatwa Festival, Abadi said "The Iraqi people have achieved victory, and we will press on with our path of victory".

"There is a powerful cohesion between Iraqi people and armed forces," Abadi added in the festival organized by Al-Abbas Brigade.

"IMIS will never be dissolved, it will remain for the benefit of Iraq," he added.

The Iran-backed militias have committed atrocities against civilians in the battle for Mosul, particularly Sunnis.

International human rights organizations said those atrocities amount to war crimes.

Iraqi human rights activists and politicians have called for dissolving the militias.
