War remnants threaten Basra residents' livelihood

War remnants and explosives in Basra threaten civilians' lives as the Baghdad's central government ignores the residents' sufferings.

Basra governorate council admitted that active war remnants spread throughout 1,400 billion square meters in the governorate, noting that the government didn't do anything to lift these explosives.

In a press statement, Basra Governorate Council Member Nasha'at al-Mansuri said that eastern and southern areas in Basra hold massive amounts of mines and war remnants, some of them date from 10 years ago.

He added that the government didn't do anything to cleanse these areas, except in the oil rich areas.
