$20 mln Iran-sponsored bribe to release corrupt Salahudin governor

Corruption in Iraq
An Iraqi MP said Monday a dirty deal was being made to release Salahudin governor Ahmed Jabouri for 20 million dollars.

MP Meshan al-Jabouri said on his facebook page, "I can confirm and shoulder the responsibility for the veracity of  the information, a deal is being cooked to release now detained Ahmed Jabouri for 20 million USD".

He added the deal was sponsored by an Iraqi diplomat, close to the embassy of a neighboring country, in a clear reference to Iran.

On July 26th, an Iraqi court issued an arrest warrant against Jabouri over corruption charges.

Jabouri was arrested in al-Salehya district in Baghdad after the parliamentary integrity commission filed a lawsuit against him.

Corruption has gone rampant in the war-torn Iraq.
