Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri will attend Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's swearing-in ceremony scheduled for August 5, Iranian Tasnim news agency reported Monday.
In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari in Baghdad on Sunday, Jabouri said he will travel to Tehran to attend President Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony at Iran’s parliament.
He also voiced the Iraqi parliament’s support for the efforts by the governments of Tehran and Baghdad for closer relations.
Jabouri and Jaberi Ansari further discussed the latest regional developments and the situation in Iraq.
Iraqi officials have voiced recently gratefulness for what they called Iranian military support to Iraqi army in the battle for Mosul.
This comes despite Iran's repeated intervention in Iraq's internal affairs through deploying dozens of terror militias to destabilize the region.
