Security forces control southern part of Old City of Mosul

Iraqi police control southern part of Old City of Mosul
The Federal police have completely retaken the southern part of the Old City of Mosul, police colonel Hafiz Halef reported Tuesday.

The fighting is still ongoing in Al-Mada'in district and al-Jesr al-Hadidi in  the Old City of Mosul and the Iraqi forces are sweeping all the surrounded areas of the city, he added.

Security forces, backed by International Coalition air raids and logistic support of the US army, have retaken eastern Mosul and most of its western part after six months of battles. These forces are focusing now on controlling the Old City.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Iraqi forces declared Mosul has become totally free of ISIS terrorists.
