Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri will mediate between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and Yemen cut ties with Qatar, informed source said on Tuesday.
This came after Jabouri met with Qatari Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and received a phone call from Deputy crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman.
The source asserted that Jabouri schedule reveals that he seeks to mediate in the GCC crisis, where he is expected to visit Turkey then Egypt next week.
If he succeed in his negotiations in these two countries, he will head to Saudi Arabia as his final stop, the source noted.
This comes as Saudi Arabia and three other Arab countries have officially severed ties with Qatar and moved to cut off land, sea and air routes to the energy-rich nation that is home to a major US military base, accusing it of supporting regional terror groups.
