Iraqi Parl't speaker urges to agree on elections bill in Kirkuk

parliment speaker Jabouri
The Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri urged Kirkuk constituency MPs on Monday to end the current disagreement among them and agree on provincial council elections' bill in the Governorate.

He asked the government to work to solve the services and security problems that Kirkuk Governorate suffers from. He also insisted on the importance of the liberation of Hawija District and the other districts in Kirkuk, as well as ensuring the safe return of the displaced people.

A number of lawmakers are opposed to the law, including the MP Hassan al-Shemari who is opposed to the electoral system adopted therein.

Yet, the Kurdish blocs lodged their protest over the law due to the situation in Kirkuk, conditioning that the elections should be held in the province first.

The Turkmen lawmakers demanded a special election law for Kirkuk.
