Kirkuk will be included in the Kurdistan independence referendum that will be held in the next autumn, Kurdistan President adviser Hemin Hawrami said on Tuesday.
In a press statement, Hawrami said that the independence issue was discussed between Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani, US Vice President Mike Pence and UK Foreign Office.
Kirkuk governorate's council asserted on April that Kirkuk will be annexed to Kurdistan. The council also refused to bring down the Kurdistan flag off the governmental buildings.
This move outraged the Iraqi Arabs and Turkmans who boycotted the governorate's officials.
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) formed a committee to discuss the date to hold the Kurdistan independence referendum.
