Former Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of Kurdistan Democratic Party's political bureau, Hoshyar Zebari said that the demonstrations witnessed in several Iraqi provinces and the formation of the new government are two different matters.
Zebari pointed out that he believes that the formation of the government will be delayed until the end of this year due to the disputes between political blocs.
A number of Iraqi cities and provinces, including Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Babil, Diwaniyah, Wassit, Najaf, Muthanna and Karbala are witnessing mass demonstrations and sit-ins to protest against shortage of jobs, electricity, water and basic services.
But the demands of protesters have escalated, as they chanted slogans demanding the overthrow of the regime and political parties. Observers said that the ongoing protests obstacle the process of forming the new government.
