Kurdistan Region's Independent High Elections and Referendum Commission (IHERC) has shown willingness to hold parliamentary and presidential elections of the region in the beginning of April if the requirements and the necessary budget are available.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Shirwan Zirar, official spokesman for Kurdistan's IHERC, said if the financial and administrative support is available, the IHERC can hold the elections as soon as possible.
The IHERC will hold a meeting with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the parliament's presidium next week to set the date for the parliamentary and presidential elections, he noted.
The IHERC has called for allocating 23 billion Iraqi dinars as a budget for conducting the parliamentary election, he further stated.
There is not any accurate census of the people of Kurdistan except via the ration cards, which is not accurate. The IHERC cannot rely on them to calculate the number of people and update the voter register, he added.
