There is continuous coordination between Erbil and Baghdad to conduct a military operation against a group called “The White Flags” that has reemerged on the outskirts of Kirkuk city, security expert Wathiq al-Hashimi revealed Thursday.
In a press statement, al-Hashimi said the federal government and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are cooperating at the security and intelligence levels to eradicate the White Flags terrorists, who have been spotted on the outskirts of Kirkuk and Tuz Khurmatu districts.
The terrorist group was established 20 years ago. Most of its members are affiliated to Ansar al-Islam group, headed by Mullah Krekar, who has been arrested over terrorism charges, he noted.
The joint forces have conducted a reconnaissance mission in the area and shelled the terrorist group’s hideouts, he further stated.
He added that units of ground forces will storm mountains and conduct clearance operations to prevent the terrorists from infiltrating into other Iraqi districts.
