Roads to PM's office closed in anticipation of popular protests

A security source said Friday that all roads leading to the Allawi district in central Baghdad were blocked as heavy security was deployed near the office of Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi.

Sources further clarified to the press that the security troops were deployed in anticipation of popular protests demanding better services and more job opportunities.

The sources also affirmed that so far no protests were traced yet.

Iraqi citizens have been vowing to protest the lack of services, especially the deteriorating electricity service, as well as unemployment rates.

In May, thousands of Iraqis urged political and factional leaders to stay out of any conflict between Iran and Washington, with calls to stop allowing Iran to meddle in Iraq’s affairs and instead focus on providing better services to citizens.
