Environmental experts have rejected a decision to merge both ministries of environment and health, saying that such a decision is wrong, and will further endanger the Iraqi environment.
Mostafa al-Adli, an expert, said Iraq lost a lot due to canceling the environment ministry.
"The risks of the pollutants endanger the lives of millions of Iraqis, in addition to the livestock and agriculture," he said. Merging the two ministries led to decrease in cooperation as well as the development of the expertise.
Meanwhile, Magdi Allam Amin, secretary general of the Arab Experts Union, said, “canceling the Iraqi environment ministry was a huge mistake.” He urged the government to deal seriously with the pollution issues, taking into consideration the years of war and its aftermath.
