Macron calls for talks with anti-government activists

French President Emmanuel Macron called for further talks with anti-government activists who have been protesting for two weeks, France 24 reported.

Macron led crisis talks with the Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and other top security service officials headed by the interior minister led crisis talks on Sunday during which he surveyed the damage from a day of riots across Paris.

The talks were held to forge a response to the violence that left hundreds injured nationwide. During the meeting, Philippe has been asked to meet protest organizers and party leaders as part of a "constant wish for dialogue," the Elysee Palace said.

A number of 412 people were arrested on Saturday during the worst clashes for years in the capital, Paris police said, with 378 remaining in custody.

Moreover, 263 persons were injured nationwide, with 133 injured in the capital, including 23 members of the security forces.
