The mission of Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi concerning choosing candidates for ministers of interior and defense before the Parliament's vote session has become more complicated amid the growing conflict between the parties that won in the recent elections.

At the end of October, parliament voted on 14 ministers from the new government of Abdul Mahdi, while the vote on eight ministries, including defense, interior, culture, education, justice, planning, higher education and  immigration, was postponed because of political disputes over the candidates.

This dilemma can be solved

For his part, Fatah Alliance MP Amer al-Fayez said there is information indicating that Abdul Mahdi will submit to the parliament the names of candidates for the remaining ministries in his cabinet for vote. The MP added the political blocs do not know so far who those candidates are.

Fayez said that Abdul Mahdi and the political forces have engaged in many dialogues and negotiations on the vacant ministries and reached advanced positive results. However, the conflict on the posts of the ministers of defense and interior remains the main obstacle.

Fayez noted that Abdul Mahdi has the ability to resolve this dilemma by introducing candidates who he himself believes to be suitable, adding that the political forces will support any option Abdul Mahdi chooses.

Political forces blamed for delay

For his part, Ali al-Sajri, a National Axis Alliance figure, said that the main obstacle to the completion of Abdul Mahdi's government is represented in the dispute and political conflict on the ministries of defense and interior, adding that Abdul Mahdi is waiting for political consensus to come to parliament before submitting the names for ministers to a vote.

According to some media reports, there is a disagreement between the Saairun and Bina (Building) blocs over candidate for interior minister Faleh al-Fayyad, who the prime minister was unable to pass after the objection of Muqtada al-Sadr.
