The Diyala Operations Command has declared the launch of an expanded military operation to follow up ISIS elements in the province.
“Joint security forces supported by the army launched a large-scale military operation to track the cells in the north of Khanaqin district and north of Jalawla district," Operation Commander said on Tuesday.
He added that this operation comes within the framework of ending any presence of ISIS cells.
Atheel al-Nujaifi, former governor of Nineveh, said on Sunday, that the presence of ISIS in Iraq is the result of forcing Iraq to get involved in proxy wars.
Nujaifi cited on Twitter one of the Iraqi leaders saying that ISIS is the result of Iraq's position in the Syrian crisis. Nujaifi also denounced Iraq's involvement in Iran's foreign wars.
A proxy war is an armed war taking place between two countries or non-state actors which act on behalf of other parties that are not directly involved in the war acts.
