Following Iran’s attempted assassination plot in Denmark, Norway summoned the Iranian ambassador in its country on Thursday.

Norway’s Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soereide told Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Habibollah Zadeh during the meeting that such devious activity “is unacceptable.”

The meeting comes after Denmark revealed Tuesday that the Iranian intelligence service is believed to have been behind the assassination attempt on its soil and called for European countries to support sanctions against Ali Khamenei’s regime.

“We see the situation that has arisen in Denmark as very serious and that a Norwegian citizen of Iranian background is suspected in this case,” Soereide stated, referring to an Iranian-Norwegian citizen who was arrested in Sweden under accusations of being involved with the plot, although he has denied the charges, as has the Iranian government.

According to Danish intelligence chief Finn Borch Andersen, Iran was targeting the leader of the Danish branch of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA), which is believed to have been behind the recent attack against Iranian military personnel and Revolutionary Guards during a celebration in Ahvaz, Iran.

ASMLA is an Arab-Iranian opposition group that seeks a separate state in Iran’s oil-producing province of Khuzestan. Arabs are an oppressed minority in Khamenei’s Iran.
