MP Awad al-Awadi on Thursday demanded newly-appointed Adel Abdul Mahdi that Basra should host the first Cabinet meeting after the government formation.

Awadi affirmed that Basra must be considered a top priority by Mahdi, after former prime minister Haider al-Abadi “failed to managed the crisis or to provide anything despite of all the promises.”

He also added that representatives of Basra demand Mahdi to find solutions for the governorate as well as granting it its deprived rights, including a share in the country’s petrodollar in the 2019 budget.

“The success of any government begins in Basra, because it is Iraq’s city of economy,” Awadi added.
