The U.S Embassy in Baghdad welcomed on Monday the decision by Iraq’s
Federal Supreme Court to ratify the results of the May 12 parliamentary
In a statement, the embassy said, "We are happy with the commitment shown by the newly-elected Iraqi leaders over the formation of a new government as scheduled."
It added that the court's decision paves the way for the convening of the first session of the new parliament, and subsequently the formation of the new government.
The statement added, "The United States, under the Strategic Framework Agreement, supports independence and complete sovereignty of Iraq, hoping that the next government will be formed on a national basis to continue combating corruption, protecting the Iraqi people, seeking to achieve fundamental economic reforms and building strong relations with world countries to meet the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people."
