Syria FM claims no Iranian combat forces in his country

Qassem Soleimani, commander of IRGC's Quds Force, among his militiamen

Syrian FM Walid al-Moallem claimed Saturday Iran has no combat forces or fixed bases in his country amid demands by Russia to oust Iranian militias from southern Syria.

These comments come amid escalating tensions with Israel warning against any permanent Iranian military presence in Syria.

The Syrian minister claimed Tel Aviv was making false claims to try and pressure Iran, its archrival.

Dozens of Iranian soldiers and officers have been killed recently in airstrikes by teh Israeli Air Force against positions of Iranian militias in Syria.

Iran has deployed dozens of its militias to fight alongside the Bashar Assad regime forces, most notably IRGC Militias.
