The top advisor to Iran’s Mullah regime leader Khamenei, Ali Akbar Velayati visited the devastated area of Eastern Ghouta in Syria, after shelling its civilians with poison chemical gas by the Syria dictator Bashar al-Assad regime.

In a video shared on social media platforms the Mullah regime’s advisor was seen wandering the rubble and collapsed buildings of the enclave of Eastern Ghouta that has suffered from Assad bombing for over two months. Velayati was standing among his guards listening to a review of one of Assad’s military men about their progress in the suburb nearby the capital of Damascus.

During his tour, Velayati told the state TV that Tehran would support Damascus against any foreign aggression, indicating to US President Donald Trump’s threats to militarily response to the chemical attack on Duma.

Trump and his Western allies are discussing possible military action to punish Syria’s Assad for a suspected poison gas attack on Saturday against the opposition-held town that had long held out against government forces.

“We will stand by Syria’s government against any foreign aggression ... Iran backs Syria in its fight against America and the Zionist Regime,” Ali Akbar Velayati told state TV during his visit.

Seven Iranian military personnel were reportedly killed in an airstrike on a Syrian airbase on Sunday. Iran has blamed Israel for the attack on Tyias or T4 airbase, near Homs, the claims that Israel has neither confirmed nor denied. Velayati, upon his arrival in Syria on Tuesday, said the strike would “not remain without response”, Iranian media reported.

“Syria’s enemies are angry because of its military advances against terrorist groups,” he added.

Tehran denies having any conventional armed forces in Syria, but has acknowledged military advisers and volunteers from the evolutionary Guards Corps are there to help Assad’s forces.
