Over 20,000 fowls have been culled due to bird flu outbreak in northwestern Diyala, a source from the agriculture department in the governorate revealed Friday.
The source said a team from the department began the second phase of slaughtering fowls showing symptoms of bird flu in poultry farms, which were under quarantine a few days ago, in Jadida al-Shat neighborhood in northwestern Diyala.
The first phase has included culling 7,000 fowls, he noted.
In 2016, more than a half a million birds have died as a result of avian influenza strain that has torn through Baghdad and Wasit in Iraq
