Kurdistan Region VP Kosrat Rasoul has met with the UN Special Envoy to Iraq Jan Kubis, Rasoul's media office said in a statement on Wednesday.

Both sides discussed the recent developments in Iraq and Kurdistan as well as the crisis between Baghdad and Erbil which has been erupted after Kurds overwhelmingly voted for the favor of Kurdistan region independence on the 25th of September, the statement added.

The meeting also tackled violence of Iraqi forces against civilians in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu, Sengar, and Makhmour.

Kubis vowed that UN will work hard to calm the situation urging all parties work on easing the crisis.

The Kurds have made many sacrifices to obtain independence but Iraqi regime wants to deprive them of their rights, he added.

The meeting also discussed means of maintaining the unity of Kurdistan to overcome the current crisis, noting that this is sole condition for effective dialogue with Baghdad regime.

The local governor of Tuz Khurmatu district Challah Abdul Ahmad participated in the meeting and he gave a speech on Iranian-backed militias violence against civilians during their attack on the district.
