40 ISIS terrorists, who have been convicted in different cases, were executed in al-Hoot Prison in Dhi Qar Governorate on Sunday.
In a press conference attended by Minister of Justice Haide al-Zamili and a number of military commanders, Dhi Qar governor Yahya al-Nasiri said that the local government will no longer allow any ISIS terrorist sentenced to death to stay in al-Hoot prison for another day.
Dhi Qar governorate officials have called on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to approve the death sentence ruling issued against terrorists in al-Nasiriyah Central Prison.
Execution of ISIS terrorists comes after a wave of popular fury as a result of a series of attacks the governorate has witnessed recently.
Earlier this month, a pair of gun and car bomb attacks hit the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar Governorate, killing at least 50 people and injuring over 90 others.
