Masum launches initiative to solve Baghdad-Erbil crisis

Iraqi President Fuad Masum launched on Wednesday an initiative to solve Baghdad-Erbil crisis ahead of Kurdistan's independence referendum that will be held on 25th of September.

Masum said that this initiative was formed after many meetings and calls with leaders of regional and world powers.

He asserted that his initiative adopted the United Nations' deal that had the approval of the five permanent members of the UN.

The initiative states that negotiations to begin from September 2017 without any preconditions from the two sides.

It added that the negotiations will be carried out in the next three years with the support of the UN.

It asserted that according to this initiative, Kurdistan authorities must cancel its referendum of 25th of September.

The initiative also states that supreme committees will be formed to organize all the negotiations process.

The committees will include Iraqi President Fuad Masum, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, Kurdistan's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and a UN representative.

The initiative stressed that the first 18 months will solve all constitutional issues that are disabled by both governments.

The second 18 months will activate any laws or drafts that have been agreed upon in the previous months.
