French journalist covering Mosul battle dies

French journalist dies in Iraq
The French journalist Stephane Villeneuve has died in Iraq after succumbing to wounds suffered in an explosion in Mosul, the New.com quoted the French foreign ministry as saying Tuesday.

The mine explosion killed Iraqi journalist Bakhtiyar Haddad and left reporter Veronique Robert wounded on Monday, while another freelance reporter suffered minor injuries.

A video journalist who had covered a number of conflicts across the world, Villeneuve was filming a piece with Robert on the battle of Mosul for French news program Envoye Special, aired on public television channel France 2.

ISIS terrorists have been defending their remaining stronghold in the Old City of Mosul, moving stealthily along narrow back alleys as US-backed Iraqi forces slowly advance.
