Security forces on Friday blocked off all roads leading to Tahrir Square in central Baghdad ahead of an expected protest, a security source said.
In statements, he added that the forces had beefed up security measures in the capital. This comes within the authorities' efforts to secure the capital ahead of expected protests in Tahrir Square, he further said.
Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr called on Thursday for "silent" demonstrations on Friday in Tahrir Square. He also asked the police to protect the protesters.
