The Trump Administration is pondering over imposing new sanctions on Iran for suppressing protesters, sources told the Baghdad Post Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump said his country would
throw its support for Iranian protesters at an “appropriate
time" as anti-government protests
erupted last week against Tehran.
Trump wrote on Twitter, “Such respect for
the people of Iran as they try to take back their corrupt government.
You will see great support from the United States at the appropriate
time!”.
Iranian
major cities are now being hit by sweeping anti-government protests.
The protests that
erupted Thursday saw millions of Iranians
in cities of Rasht, Kermanshah, Isfahan, Hamadan and elsewhere opposing economic problems
and clerical rule in the Shiite country.
At least 22 protesters have been killed and another hundreds injured, most of them seriously.
