Fuad Masum on Wednesday reiterated calls for the Baghdad central government and
the Kurdistan Regional Government to initiate an immediate dialogue to resolve
the existing crisis.
This came during a meeting he held with the two Vice Presidents, Nuri al-Maliki and Iyad Allawi. The meeting tackled the political and security developments in the country, the general budget and the situation in Kirkuk and Tuz Khurmato, according to a statement.
Masum also called for holding the parliamentary and municipal elections on time.
The meeting stressed the need to make every effort to resolve all current problems between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, deepening national unity and enhancing the gains of the federal democratic system, as well as guaranteeing the constitutional rights and freedoms of all citizens, the statement read.
In late Nov., Masum visited Erbil to listen to the problems of the Kurds and what they are dissatisfied with.
During the visit, Masum confirmed the need for a constructive dialogue between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdish government in Erbil to solve the crisis peacefully and to serve the Iraqi citizen's interest.
