Jabouri, UN envoy to Iraq discuss Kurdistan referendum

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri has discussed with Jan Kubis, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, a number of issues in the Iraqi arena, including Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum slated for September 25th, a statement revealed Wednesday.  

Jabouri media office said in a statement that the parliament speaker discussed the most significant developments in the domestic and regional arenas.

The two officials have tackled parliament’s efforts in passing laws and supporting national reconciliation, facilitating the provision of relief to displaced persons and measures assisting their return to districts recently liberated from ISIS terrorists, according to the statement.     
Moreover, Jabouri lauded the UN role in urging the international community to support Iraq in its war on terrorism and the reconstruction of liberated districts. 

Kubis said that the UN is ready to play any role that can bear fruit in Iraq.

He added that the international community supports the country in its fight against ISIS, hailing the Iraqi security forces victory over the terrorist group.
