Sadrist Movement rejects Kurdistan independence referendum

Sadrist Movement confirmed Friday its rejection of Kurdistan independence referendum, Karar al Khafaji, Head of the political body of the Sadrist movement, said Friday.

 

During his meeting with the Kurdish delegation, headed by Rowsch Nuri Shaways, Khafaji said that the best thing for Baghdad-Erbil outstanding problems is the continued dialogues to reach a mutually acceptable solution.

The movement backs a unified Iraqi State, which all its people, including Arabs and Kurdish, enjoy equality and social justice, he added.

 

Meanwhile, Shaways asserted his respect to the movement's point of view and assured that he will discuss this suggestion with the presidency of Kurdistan Region.

 

On June 7, Barzani met with Kurdistan political figures and parties and agreed to hold an independence referendum on September 25. They also agreed to hold parliamentary and presidential elections soon after the referendum.
