With mediation efforts from Qatari Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassem Al Thani, Saudi King Salman has recently approved a plan to open the Salwa border crossing to Qatari pilgrims who plan to perform Hajj this year, Saudi Press Agency announced Wednesday.
During a meeting with Sheikh Al Thani, the King also ordered that a private aircraft belonging to the Saudi Arabian Airlines be dispatched to Doha Airport to fly all Qatari pilgrims to Jeddah.
These developments made some observers describe Sheikh Al-Thani as the new Prince of Qatar.
Al-Thani also met in Saudi Arabia with a number of Saudi senior officials including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Al-Thani affirmed that the brotherly relations between the Kingdom and Qatar are deeply rooted in history.
Prince Mohammed Bin Salman thanked Sheikh Abdullah for affirming the depth of historic relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and their citizens.
Saudi Arabia along with Egypt, UAE and Bahrain has severed diplomatic relations with Qatar over the latter's support of terrorism and maintaining powerful ties with Iran.
