Iraqi army has cordoned off Tal Afar city in preparation for storming it and combating ISIS, Brigadier-General Yahya Rasool, Joint operations command spokesman, told the Baghdad Post Thursday.
He added that the army cut off the Syrian supplies to ISIS terrorists in the city.
It is expected that the battle for retaking Tal Afar from ISIS grip will last for few weeks as it is a big city, he asserted.
On Wednesday, a US military base has been established near Tal Afar. This military base is supposed to be used for planned operations to recapture Tal Afar from ISIS terrorists according to several claims.
On June 29th, Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi declared the utter fall and collapse of ISIS in Mosul. The battle to retake Mosul began last October, with coordinated attacks by Kurdish Peshmerga from the east and Iraqi army units pushing up from the south.
