Iraqi former Defense Minister Khaled al-Obaidi is a leading nominee to become the governor of Nineveh Governorate, a government source said Wednesday.
He confirmed that Nineveh provincial council members have questioned the governor Nofel Hamady Sultan about corruption cases and squandering the public property, adding that Sultan will be dismissed.
Last August, the Iraqi Parliament dismissed Obaidi on corruption charges.

Tal Afar is the only city in Nineveh Governorate that is still under ISIS' control where the Iraqi forces are preparing to launch military operations to retake it.
