Civil defense teams exhumed over 2,000 bodies from under the rubble of destroyed homes in western Mosul, Nineveh Governorate Council member Hossam al-Dein al-Abbar said on Wednesday.
In a press statement, Abbar asserted that there are over 200 houses destroyed while their residents were inside them.
Abbar expected the number to increase as civil defense teams continue their efforts to rescue the innocent civilians.
This comes as the battle for Mosul ended on Monday after ousting ISIS terrorists from their last pockets in the Old City of Mosul.
The number of civilians killed in the battles were very high as ISIS terrorist group was relying heavily on using human shields.
Meanwhile, US-led Coalition jets reportedly carried out several random shelling operations in the city increasing the numbers of civilian deaths.
Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) also carried out sectarian genocide against the Sunni population in the city, furthering the suffering and the humanitarian crisis for the war-torn city's residents.
