Up to 208 displaced families, including 1248 persons, have returned to their homes in recaptured areas from ISIS in western Anbar governorate, Ahmed Al-Salamani, a member of Iraqi migration and displaced people parliamentary committee, said on Saturday.
He added that the displacement camp at Kilo 18, west of Ramadi, has been totally evacuated after the return of 16 families.
The official also confirmed that the rest of IDPs will return as soon as possible after securing their residences.
As a result of the war against ISIS terrorists in Iraq, the number of displaced people risen dramatically. This increases the burden on the central government trying to handle the problem of displaced Iraqis who escaped the atrocities of ISIS since the launch of recapture operations.
What exacerbates displaced persons' dilemma is that Iraq’s financial resources have been drained as a result of the military operations conducted to retake ISIS-held districts.
