Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi has called on Friday on Erbil and Baghdad to hasten solving their outstanding problems ahead of the elections.
In a press conference in Najaf city, he confirmed that the peaceful dialogue is the best way to end the crisis in the disputed area of Kirkuk.
Concerning the general elections, he said that the Iraqi government has to return the displaced people to their homes, rebuild the retaken areas from ISIS, and enact the electoral law ahead of the elections.
This comes as the crisis in Kirkuk has escalated. Peshmerga forces have been fending off attacks launched by the Iraqi forces. Tensions between the two sides over the future of Kurdistan have been high since the Kurds voted for independence in a September referendum. The oil-rich Kirkuk Governorate has emerged as a flashpoint in the crisis as it is claimed by both sides.
