Kurdistan expects Baghdad to lift ban on airports by end of December

The Minister of Transport and Communications in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Mouloud Bawa Murad, on Thursday expected the reopening of Kurdistan airports before the end of December.

The United Nations promised to pressure Baghdad to end the ban on airports, Murad added.

However, Iraqi government isn't listening to UN calls, directing its Transport Minister not to lift the ban, he further said.

He also considered that the decision to stop the work of the airports is a political decision.

The Iraqi government has been imposing a ban on Kurdistan region to sanction KRG after holding a referendum on independence on September 25.
