The leader of the Sadrist Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, on Wednesday ordered to prevent the members of his parliamentary bloc from running for the upcoming elections, in a clear indication about Sadr's intention to hold an electoral alliance with Prime Minister Haider Abadi.
Sadr sent a letter to all those served as executive and legislative members in the bloc informing them of his decision, the head of the Liberal parliamentary bloc of Diaa al-Asadi said in a press statement after a meeting with Sadr.
Sadr also directed that the next four years to be for everyone who worked in the bloc, as 'years of rest', he added.
Al-Asadi called on members of the bloc and their deputies to sign a letter to be submitted to Sadr, stating that they will not apply for the next elections.
This comes as sources confirm alliance between Sadr and Prime Minister Abadi is in the making that would be an alternative to the National Alliance.
