US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert confirmed that the US supports the denuclearization of North Korea, US Department of State said.
She said, "we support the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. We do not seek regime change. We do not seek the collapse of the regime. We do not seek the accelerated reunification of the Korean Peninsula."
She added that the US President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have confirmed that it is not the appropriate time for holding talks with North Korea.
She added, "if North Korea is showing that it is serious in its interest to denuclearize, perhaps we could look at doing that, but they’re still not showing any sign of seriousness on that matter."
She continued that the US hopes North Korea won’t take any escalating actions.
"We would like to see more of a period of quiet. we hope that this will continue, that this period will continue."
